Breakthrough for Colombia's Forests

A New Law Forces Colombia's Beef Industry to Show Where Its Cattle Come From
Colombia became the first rainforest nation to require nationwide cattle traceability, forcing meat companies to trace every cow back to its origin. The reason matters: cattle drive 60 times more deforestation in Colombia than coca production. Our partner Mighty Earth, working alongside Envol Vert Colombia and Indigenous allies, helped build the political momentum behind this law, and backed a lawsuit against supermarket chain Casino Group over deforestation-linked beef. Tracking a cow costs less than $2. The only thing missing was the will to do it.
